Type Locality and Naming

The type section lies at Tarma, about 40 km southeast of Mujiuco, some 70 km southeast of Xainza County, Tibet. It was named by Wang Wenbin in 1957.


Lithology and Thickness

Claystone. Gray-green and gray-black aluminous shale, intercalated with thin-bedded limestone and quartz sandstone, gradually changed upward into interbedded sand and shale; ~2350 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Taerta Fm = next "Orphan" but different spelling (Tarma)

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Mico Fm = previous "Orphan" (but different spelling of Mijiuco)

Regional extent

Distributed in the southern Siling Co (the 2nd largest salt water lake of Tibet) and eastern Qingshazong areas in eastern Tibet.
